Pretty excited, buying my ukulele tomorrow...I was going to order it online from some guy in Hawaii, but it turns out the other recommended place to buy from online actually has a store in Midlo, and has a few Kala ukes listed on his ebay store. A bit more expensive than the hawaiian guy, but it would be nice to have somewhere local to go should I have a problem with it. Might go by and check them out tonight depending on when Melissa shows up. Still working on learning the chords (slowly...) but I am getting the hang of finger picking.

Going up to DC this weekend with Paul (who has never been), some random Cavalier folks, and meeting Erica up there. Doing the typical smithsonian/monuments/zoo trip. Also going to see Horton Hears a Who. Should be fun even though its supposed to rain on Saturday. Oh well, thankfully the museums are inside. Monuments and Zoo are going to happen on Sunday. Excellent food will happen throughout the weekend.

After listening to a *lot* of Beirut, I have decided that I need to learn to play the ukulele. I'm pretty excited about this, as I have never learned to play an instrument. Well...other than the recorder...and the viola in 6th grade. But neither of those count.

watch the ukulele orchestra of gb play shaft (seriously, the best thing ever!)

Still going strong. I ordered a daypack from REI on sale last week, and it arrived today...and it is incredibly nice. Best $24 daypack ever (it was $70!). So now I need to plan some day hikes. Anyone want to do Crabtree Falls when it gets slightly warmer?

well, its 6am and I can't get back to sleep, probably because I've slept most of the past two days due to me being rather sick and feeling like a bag of ass. But thats not going to stop me from going out tomorrow to vote in the primaries...so whats your excuse? Go vote tomorrow (assuming you live in VA or one of the other states that are doing primaries tomorrow)! And if you don't know who to vote for, perhaps go take a look at Obama's stances on the issues http://glassbooth.org/explore/index/barack-obama/11/ He's the only candidate (left) who's stance on the issues mostly fits with what I'm looking for (He's even for the decriminalization of marijuana! I'm glad we finally have a candidate who thinks we can do something better with the $50,000,000,000+ we spend on going after people who are criminals only because their government has labeled them so). He is also the only candidate in my opinion that can beat McCain...you just know there are millions of people who would rather have four more years of Bush than have Billary back in office. I'm almost to that point...and if she cries again on camera to try to boost her falling rating in the polls it might just push me to be one of those people.

i love you 2008.

So, almost two weeks into 2008. Its been exactly what I was hoping for, so far. I rearranged my apartment so I now have an office, and my bed is in the living room. Its...interesting...but I like it a lot. My apartment feels a lot bigger, and I have a desk! Birthday was last week, went up to DC with Melissa...plans for the zoo and the building museum turned into getting lost trying to find somewhere for lunch. It was fun though...ate some vegetable tempura sushi, which was amazing...hopefully the rest of the year goes this well :)

You were a piece of shit. I can't possibly imagine how a year could get shittier. Except for when my parents took me to Sam's club last weekend. That was awesome. But everything else sucked ass.

moving...

I don't care what it takes. I'm moving to Seattle next year. I keep looking at all these rooms for rent, and they're all less than $500 a month. Thats nothing. If I could get a full time job paying $8 an hour...thats the minimum wage out there... then I would be set ($600 a month to live off of after rent...not too horrible, really). Maybe things would be tight for a bit...but I'd rather be poor and happy than have too much money like now and be miserable. I hate Richmond. A lot. So my plan:

1. Save $3-4k by August '08 (thats like $400-500 a month. I can do that) (thats enough to coast for a few months if I need to, and buy a new bed and such)
2. Get $900 back from deposit at current apartment in September
3. Start looking for a job / room in August/September on Craigslist/whatever
4. Sell/give away/etc everything (including my car...don't really need one there) around August/September
5. Get on a plane with Chocola (and maybe Bardo. Maybe).
6. Never look back

I'm giggling just thinking about it!

First, some back story.

I work at a small ISP, with around 10 people. When I was interviewing for the job they left that task to Erik...He seemed like your average geeky older guy with his periodic table of elements tee shirt and large knowledge of computer components which he quizzed me on. I found out later that he liked to play tabletop RPGs (you know, roll the dice, make a joke about mountain dew...etc) and have joined him on Saturday nights to play them since. He seems like an alright guy, maybe a bit goofy at times...but pretty normal.

Well, cut to Thursday night, I get home and my internet is out. Either Steph had them disconnect it (it was in her name) or they finally got sick of me not paying the bill. I ask at work if I can borrow a Clearwire modem (wireless internet) until my DSL gets installed. Erik tells me that he has a modem at his house that he doesn't really use and that I should stop by his apartment on Saturday to pick it up. On Saturday I head over, shoot the shit for a few minutes and pick up the modem. On my way out he turns the lights on in the living room and hallway so we can see where we're walking and I realize that his living room is covered in Nazi flags. I ask him why, hoping the answer is that he is some giant WWII buff and I just hadn't picked up on it yet. But his answer is "Oh, I'm a member of the National Socialist Party. I'm big into white power. My roommate even has seig heil tattooed on his knuckles". He then goes on to tell me that he doesn't really have that much of a problem with "the Jews", but that he "hates those niggers".

In my head I'm thinking what the fuck?! They don't teach you in school what to do if you meet a Nazi. That bit of info was left out of my education, so I was at a bit of a loss about what to do. I just said something like "Oh, I see" and got the hell out of there.

What the fuck?! I'm still in shock. A fucking Nazi. And I had no idea. I guess it never crossed my mind when I met someone to wonder if they were a fucking Nazi. Until now, that is.

Wow, so its been almost a year since I updated this. What have I done in the past year?

-crashed the altima, and replaced it with a horrible ford escort
-went to Seattle
-went to a cave
-stayed in a cabin
-did acid x2
-gave up smoking
-bought far too much hello kitty stuff
-moved to northside
-went out with/lived with/got dumped by Steph
-went camping
-managed not to go to the ER for an asthma attack. yet.
-went to water country at least 12 times
-managed not to strangle Bardo
-no longer working at CavHell
-got a job at Access Technology
-sold my wii
-resolved to get back into backpacking
-broke my glasses. again.

So yeah, stuff. 2007 has had its ups and downs. My job is pretty awesome, Access is a local ISP...so its really small and I don't really do much. I have my cats. I have an apartment. I am not going hungry. I have a regular work schedule so I am actually able to go do stuff and hang out with friends now. Life is pretty alright, for the most part.

"Why don't you tell them how many million citizens of America and its allies you intend to kill in search of the imaginary victory and in breathless pursuit of the mirage towards which you are driving your people's sons in order increase your profits?"

Wow. I think this guy has a point.
